Yesterday we had another Midwife Appointment. It went well, mostly uneventful. Right away when she saw my belly she said "what a nice round belly!" and I told her it feels a little rounder in the last two weeks. When she got out her tape measure to measure the length of my uterus and the baby''s height.... she said "WOW! You have Really grown in the last two weeks! No wonder your belly feels rounder!" The baby is now just over 2 pounds and about 15.5 inches long.
She talked to us about pre-term labor and braxton hicks contractions. We also talked about Evan quitting smoking this Friday, June 1st, which is his goal and I am super super excited about it. She recommended a chiropractor in Ottawa that does ultrasound in your ear to quit smoking. The husband of a co-worker went and had great success. Not sure yet if Evan will do that.
So everything is great, baby is growing, and I have an appointment in two weeks!
Feeling fine. A little more tired than usual. I find that working is really starting to ANNOY me and that I would rather be at home with my feet up eating popsicles. Such is life.
Bob and Sue ordered the crib and mattress for us, and I am so super excited for them to arrive! I appreciate this gift and with the changing table and glider/ottoman set from my mom and dad, the nursery will be near completion!
I won a lot of 60 baby girl clothes/sleepers sized 0-6months on eBay, for $25. That should be a GREAT deal! Did I mention we don''t need any clothes? We have more clothes than a baby can possibly wear in the first 3 months or so. But that''s what happens when everything is so darn cute and you''ve been collecting clothes for a while. Plus I hit up a few garage sales of Friends last summer and got entire totes full of clothes for $15-$20.
My allergies are driving me CRAZY and I am really jonesing for a Claritin D. But the Midwife says NO WAY so I blow my nose 10 thousand times a day and use dry eye drops about twice a day...
I bought a new lawn chair that is round like a moon chair and has a back entirely of mesh so that I don''t get too hot this summer at parades, reunions, etc. Hope that helps!
Last night I spent the night in the hospital! All afternoon I had a backache, and my neck was hurting, and I just attributed it to needing to go to the chiropracter... since I had an appointment the next day. But as the night went on it bothered me a little more until I decided at about 10pm to just go to sleep. When I lay down it just kept getting worse until I couldn''t get comfortable, and I had severa pain starting to radiate from below my shoulder blades and through the front near my breastbone. The pain got worse and worse and I kept having to pee. Eventually I got scared because it was getting hard to breathe, and I called Evan and he came home. The pain got pretty intense, and then suddenly.... around 12:45, it stopped completely. I felt better. I decided to lie down and 10 minutes later the pain was back and so intense I couldn''t lie, sit, or stand. I started pacing and I felt hot and nauseous and couldn''t breathe because it hurt. I was having a hard time talking because I couldn''t breathe well, and we decided to call the midwife, who told me to go to the hospital and that the baby was putting pressure on my kidneys. Evan took me and when we got there we were taken right into a nice private room with a queen bed. The covers were turned down, the fetal monitor and the IV were ready for me. They started me on the fetal monitor and then started an IV (my first ever!) and after the baby was monitored and okay, they pushed some dilated (pain med) into my IV and I felt fabulous and relaxed. Every muscle in my body released the tension and I was finally able to relax. Evan stayed with me and lay on the bed and held my hand and then rubbed my back while I started to sleep.
In the morning I had no more pain, and I ordered breakfast. I had a kidney ultrasound and a visit from both the OB and my midwife. They found that I have Hydronephrisis (fluid in the kidneys) because the baby is "squishing them" and the urine was having problems leaving my kidneys and causing a buildup that resulted in all the pain, and the UTI symptoms that I had been having for the past 2.5 weeks.
I was discharged this morning and Evan and I spent the entire day sleeping to recouperate from a long night. I am off work tomorrow per the midwife but can go back on Friday if there is no pain.
After a bag and a half of IV fluids, my urine was clear and had no more bacteria or high White or red blood cells.
We did find out today that it IS a girl! YAY! She is healthy and her name will be Ardyn Isabel Johnson.
I had a NICE appointment with my midwife this morning. She thinks that I don''t have kidney stones, as there is no blood in my urine and when I was actually able to talk to her, she realized that my pain was more of a nagging nuisance pain than a PAINFUL pain. LOL.
I did get an exam and a culture taken, but everything is fine. She measured my belly (lengthwise!) with a tape measure. That was a first, and it made me giggle. I have gained 1/4 pound in the last month for a total of 1 and 1/4 pounds this pregnancy. The heartbeat was strong and steady as usual.... and I get to go back in 2 weeks and then every two weeks from this point until delivery, or until she wants to see me more often.
It''s hard to believe that in less than 3 weeks I will be in my THIRD Trimester!
This morning I got to spend some time in the OB unit. Since last Friday I have been having a pain on my right side, that starts like a side-ache and progresses into pain that goes around the top and bottom of my belly. Strange. This morning I woke up at 4am, and by 4:30 the right side pain was back. I tried lying on my right side, and it got way worse, so I lay on my left side until it mostly went away.
I couldn''t sleep so I went to work at 6am (super early for me) and stopped by the OB department where they called the Dr to report what I had been feeling. I went to work, but before long the nurses called me back down because the Dr. wanted me to have some tests done. I had about an hour of fetal monitoring, and the baby was super active and had a great heartbeat. Then I had a CBC (Blood drawn) and A Urinalysis. I had just had one last Sunday and seemed to have a UTI that I am on medication for.... although it doesn''t seem to be much better after a week of antibiotics.
I was able to rest in OB for a while and even almost fell asleep.
Dr isn''t really worried about the pain, but thinks it may be some pressure on my kidney/bladder area that is causing all of this. I am feeling okay today, not running any marathons, but still feeling fine.
Mother''s Day was nice... I got THREE cards! Evan got to feel lots of kicking in the past 2 or 3 days, which makes me smile.
UPDATE: Dr thinks I may have kidney stones and I am now straining my urine! YAY!
I am not feeling my best today, which is unusual. I only got about 4.5 hours of sleep, and was awake at 5am and sniffing and having throat drainage and hip pain- so I got up to try to clear my head. The baby was up and moving quite a bit so I thought maybe I would eat some cereal, because that usually allows me to go right back to sleep, but even after cereal I was still stuffy and sniffly and then the baby was going crazy, pretty much kicking and punching constantly and really low, so it was hard to be very comfortable. Add to that the pelvic floor pressure that I have been feeling the last five days.... and I just plain got up for the day and took a nice warm bubble bath. I took my time getting ready (who wants to be at work 3 hours early?) and by the time I had make-up on, and hair done, and was fully dressed, my stomach started hurting and I lay back down for about 15 minutes.
Lab tests yesterday afternoon revealed high White Blood Cell count (again!) so today I will start antibiotics that should help with the bladder pressure and hopefully the sinus crap too. My midwife recommended a nettie pot to clean out my sinuses and so that''s what I will do at lunch today, get a nettie pot and my prescription. I won''t work this afternoon but instead will go find a place to rest and relax.
So besides a few nuisance pains, all is well. The baby is certainly happy, kicking and playing all morning.
For the past two days, it has been constant kicking and punching. At about 21 weeks I was feeling some type of movement at least once a day, and started to feel the occasional kick. As of yesterday, as I am heading towards 23 weeks, I am being constantly kicked! I really started to notice it last night and it continued all evening. After taking a bath, I lay down in bed to rub on some tummy butter and as soon as I touched my stomach the kicking started again. I thought it was just an especially active night, until I woke up this morning and it started all over again. I have been getting kicked most of the day, and it''s especially noticeable when sitting down. Sometimes it makes me giggle out loud or jump. Looks like I have 4 more months of kicking and they are sure to only get stronger!
